It is summer. The weather is warm and these last two weeks we have spent a lot of time outdoors. Visits to the backyard playhouse are frequent. There is the daily check under the leaves of our raspberry bushes and a look to see if the cardinal family residing in the wisteria branches has grown. Someone is stealing our strawberries, leaving a trail up the stone path. We have bare feet and dirty fingernails and sunscreen-stained hairlines. Lavender is blooming, and our evenings smell of fresh-cut grasses and citronella. A practical education in everyday life. These days can be long, but the season, I know, is short.
